The Part
The dialysis nurse will supervise acute or chronic renal failure patients’ dialysis treatments.
The duties include checking and recording patients’ vitals, setting up dialysis machines correctly, collecting pre-treatment dialysis data, reviewing patient records, conducting pre-dialysis patient assessment and tests, and treating patients under the supervision of the Head Nurse.
Responsibility and duties
Ensure patients receive proper haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis treatments.
Monitoring dialysis patients for side effects.
Creating and updating nursing care plans.
Dialysis issues should be reported to the relevant medical professional.
Assist Dialysis Technicians in setting up dialysis machines and equipment.
If patients choose home dialysis, teach them and their families how to use it.
Explain dialysis treatment, renal disease management, and nutrition and exercise to patients.
Give patients professional and efficient nursing services consistently and quickly.
Patients should be received, prioritised, and directed at first contact.
Track and report patient symptoms and changes while under observation.
Correctly identify patient health hazards for doctors.
Monitor admitted patients’ vital signs and deliver medications per doctor’s orders.
Enter patient vital signs and procedures into the electronic medical record system, register, and paperwork.
Maintain a professional learning culture by working together.
Perform other nursing team duties.
Competencies and Experience
A Bachelor’s Degree or Nephrology Nursing Certificate is required.
Any suitable further training or degree is beneficial.
Minimum 5 years of post-qualification nursing experience, including dialysis.
Current nursing licence.
